Bernabe Mendoza - August Texan Optimist Award Winner
I’m Bernabe Mendoza the youngest of my family this year my senior year I was involved in a Health Science class to receive my Patient Care Certifications (PCT), also I was involved in several clubs like International Club, Student Council, Roo Crew and Prom Committee, my favorite hobby is to go swim. I’m planning to attend a two year college at Weatherford College to get my associate degree in nursing and after transfer to University of California in Los Angeles to complete a cosmetic surgery program.
Mariah King - August Texanne Optimist Award Winner
My name is Mariah King and I am honored to have been selected for this award. As I look forward to my future, I am saddened to be leaving my high school life behind. I have so many amazing memories that I will carry with me throughout my life from being involved within the Weatherford ISD programs. I have spent my entire life as a cheerleader, from competitive cheer to having served as cheer Co-Captain for Weatherford ISD my 8th grade year as well as my freshman and J.V years. I have learned so much about myself and others while being in these roles. I have spent my senior year serving with the PALS program at W.H.S and found great enjoyment in working with my younger fellow Roo’s. While they think I was there helping them, they were in fact helping me become a better person daily. I have served in various community events throughout my time here, as well as helped with Lena Pope in Fort Worth in various ways. I am currently working with the Weatherford Farmers Market and love working there. I am looking forward to attending Tarleton in the fall with my best friend and while my future is still undecided; I will be facing it with optimism and HOPE. Thank you again for this honor.
Madison Gann - July Texanne Optimist Award Winner
Madison Gann: Hi, my name is Madison Gann. In the near future I will be attending Tarleton State University where I will be working towards my teaching degree. I love working with kids and watching them grow both physically and mentally. Im currently a member of North Side Baptist Church and love being involved with all the different activities that go on there. I am currently employed at Funky Munky and absolutely love it. Everyone is so nice and it is all around an amazing place to work at. No matter what people may say, making sno cones is a lot harder than you might think! In my free time I love spending time with my friends and family. It doesn’t matter what were doing, if were together, were having fun!
Joshua Kerfoot - July Texan Optimist Award Winner
Joshua Kerfoot: My name is Joshua Kerfoot and I'm a 2020 graduate from Weatherford High School. I have a passion for things and love other things. I have worked at Spring Creek Fire department for three years, and was promoted to Cadet Lieutenant in 2017. Along with being a volunteer firefighter, this year I am working hard to acquire a certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. Once I am a certified EMT I will be attending Weatherford College where I will be getting my Paramedic and hope to become a Firefighter Paramedic.
Andrew Whitsitt - June Texan Optimist Award Winner
Andrew Whitsitt: I am band beau and a leader in the fight’n Roo marching band, I have earned multiple service awards and outstanding musicianship awards along with medals for solo and ensembles at solo contest. I was affiliated with NHS, Science NHS, outreach club, and prom committee and attend south cliff church in Fort Worth. I enjoy reading, playing the saxophone, and studying math and physics. I am attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi and majoring in mechanical engineering.
Erin Logan - June Texanne Optimist Award Winner
My name is Erin Logan and I will be going to Weatherford College in the fall before transferring to Texas A&M with a major in Agri-Business and Financing. I work part-time at Chick-Fil-A in Hudson Oaks as well as Internships at both Teskeys Western Store and a local Dairy Goat Farm. I am a part of the Student Adult Leadership Team at North Side Baptist Church, National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, National Art Honor Society, DECA, WHS Roo Crew, Weatherford FFA, Weatherford FFA Planning Committee, the Class of 2020 Prom Planning Committee as well as both the American Dairy Goat Association and Central Texas Dairy Goat Association. I also compete on the Weatherford FFA Horse Judging Team and the Radio Broadcasting Team. I have shown Nubian Dairy Goats for the past four years, competing at local and state livestock shows. If I'm not painting or making custom vinyl designs for t-shirts with my Cricut machine I am out in the pasture with the goats or at a local High School Rodeo watching my best friend compete. I have also played softball for the past ten years. Thank you so much for choosing me for this award!
Hyrum Harmer - May Texan Optimist Award Winner
First off, I would like to say that it is an honor to be chosen for Optimist Club Texan of the month. For a little about me, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and am a regional young mens representative for my church. In school I am a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. I am a captain on the varsity soccer team and perform with my WHS varsity choir. I was chosen for first team all district for soccer, I am an Eagle Scout, I am ranked 9 in my graduating class, and achieved academic all state for soccer. One of my favorite hobbies is rock climbing. I currently am employed at Lone Star Pain Medicine. I plan to attend Brigham Young University studying physics and engineering and later to serve a 2-year mission for my church.
Sarah Hamilton - May Texanne Optimist Award Winner
: Hi, I'm Sarah Hamilton. I am involved in a variety of things from FFA to PALS. I am a member of the National Techinical Honor Society and Athletic Training. I also work At Chick-fil-a!! I plan on attending Hardin-Simmons University to major in elementary education!
Logan Arnold - April Texan Optimist Award Winner
Logan Arnold is a 2020 graduate of Weatherford High and will continue his career as a Roo, while attending Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Logan is attending on a scholarship and will play football in the fall. He enjoys hunting and fishing, as well as time with his friends!
Bailey Smith - April Texanne Optimist Award Winner
I am majoring in nursing at Tarleton with a minor in social work. I am a member of NHS, SNHS and a Volunteer Service Award Recipient.
Rey Huang - March Texan Optimist Award Winner
During high school, the extracurricular sporting activities I was a part of included football, basketball, and track. On the more educational side of things I participated in business clubs such as DECA and FBLA and was also part of groups such as the junior ambassadors as well as NHS I’ve also been a part of the honors banquet every year of my high school career and with all that said, I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.
Zoe Zimring - March Texanne Optimist Award Winner
This is only Zoe’s fourth year in Weatherford. She was brand new to the district Freshman year. Over her time here, she has participated in the Following; Freshman float in the homecoming parade, joined FFA, joined the Fighting Roo Band , joined FCCLA, participated in Wintergard and was a member of the 2020 prom committee. Zoe is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Richardson Texas . Zoe will be attending Tarrant county community college in the fall to start on a business degree With the plans to transfer to West Texas A&M the following year.
Sydney Wolfenberger - February Texanne Optimist Award Winner
My name is Sydney Wolfenberger, I have been involved in my high school's band and the PALS program; additionally, I am also a part of the National Honor Society and am in the top 25 students of my class. Outside of school, I am involved with volunteering at my public library and working as a lifeguard at the local pool. My hobbies include music (listening and playing--I'm trying to learn the ukulele) as well as writing and reading. I plan to attend the University of North Texas, majoring in Journalism.
